Each of us grow up learning to understand lifestyle, or the way in which we should live our lives and maintain a healthy body. We learned that healthy food and exercise are crucial; and that things like toxins and destructive habits will lead to disease. We learned to strive for optimal health, because we saw those around us suffering when they neglect themselves.
When we take a look at the last 50 years in terms of our health individually or as a society, it appears that we have forgotten the basic lessons that should have been ingrained into our minds since childhood. We are not moving our lives in a positive direction in regards to healthy living, and this is made painfully obvious by the amount of chronic disease we are needlessly suffering from. (5 out of 6 of us will suffer with heart disease and/or cancer) In this article we will look at re-introducing the fundamentals of living a healthy life; and how regular Chiropractic care can get you to understand the cause of disease and how to prevent suffering, instead of simply covering the pain and symptoms with our heads in the sand.
Each of us want to be healthy, stay healthy, and live a life that is fulfilling based on our own convictions (and I do realize some folks simply live in the moment not concerned about tomorrow). Health is defined as “functioning at or near 100% and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Based on this definition from Dorland’s Medical Text, we know Health = Function. When your body functions correctly you will be healthy and conversely, you’re your body starts to lose function you will lose health. Let’s start a brief anatomy lesson. Life starts at conception and the first system to develop is the Central Nervous System (CNS) which consists of the brain and spine. This is the only system fully protected and encased in bone, therefore it is very important. The brain controls every function of every cell in the body, and nerves serve to communicate between the brain and the cells; we are hard wired not wireless. Organs in and of themselves are not self-regulating or self-controlling, they must be told what to do by the brain. For each of us to be healthy the body must fulfill its needs on a cellular level, and cells need nutrients and oxygen after they’re told what to do by the nervous system. Our creator has made us in a hierarchy, which is: nervous system, oxygen, water, nutrient and exercise. While there are other factors, the largest being sleep, this function is done by design, not by chance.
The CNS is designed so that the brain controls every cells function. If you experience a total loss of communication between the brain and body, this is called paralysis and most of us are somewhat familiar with this term. If the brain is communicating with your body at only 50% what does that look like? If paralysis is total loss of function, then what is 50% loss of function? This is called disease, or a lack of ease/function. When your body loses function it creates a situation for toxins/deficiencies to set up shop….this is the environment for disease. You don’t have Cancer then become sick, you become sick then develop Cancer or any other chronic disease.
The steps for changing the body’s environment are simple and based on the hierarchy in which you are made. First is to test, not guess; testing of the Nervous System requires an X-ray of the spine to evaluate the connection between the brain and the body. Chiropractic care will restore normal spinal function. Next is to restore the Gut function, we do a Metabolics test, using a blood spot and urine test to evaluate your body on a cellular level for deficiencies and toxicities. Supplementation based on the test results, plus removing the addition of toxins like: sugars, processed foods, and air quality will restore the integrity of the gut. The CNS (100%) and the Gut (85%) drives your immune system and this is where your healing comes from. This is why the American diet of sugars and processed food, along with our extensive use of drugs in treatment destroys the gut.
